It’s currently very hot in Kenya and other parts of the world. This heightens metabolic processes, increasing the risk of dehydration due to excessive sweating.
During my commute yesterday, I sat next to a lady who chose a 500ml Fanta Orange, claiming she was extremely thirsty. However, after drinking it, she was seen licking the bottle to get the last few drops. Using sweetened carbonated drinks to quench your thirst introduces synthetic sugars (fructose) and additives (preservatives), exacerbating the body’s need for fluids and worsening dehydration.
Ever wondered why your favorite dietitian insists on water or other healthy fluids packed with electrolytes and minerals to combat dehydration in this hot weather?
Instead of reaching for sweetened beverages, opt for clear water. Due to increased sweating, you may experience electrolyte losses, so alternating between water, soups, or electrolyte sips is an effective way to maintain hydration.

Here’s a simple Electrolyte Sip recipe to keep you hydrated while supplying essential electrolytes for optimal health ✅:
Ingredients:
- Clean water
- Lemon
- Salt
- Natural honey 🍯
Procedure: Squeeze the lemon into a liter of water, add half a tablespoon of sea salt (or regular salt if unavailable), and a tablespoon of honey. Mix well and enjoy sips throughout the day.
