The art of focus insists on concentrating on one thing until it gets you the desired results. It dictates that after identifying a problem in the community, you can solve it by applying a skill or passion you have, while simultaneously reaping satisfactory rewards.
But what happens when you feel like niching down is limiting your potential? What if, like me, you are passionate about helping people, leading, and are also a beauty enthusiast? Would you let go of some aspects of your abilities to focus on just one? My guess is you’d try to strike a balance and pursue them all, for inner satisfaction.

Humans are multidimensional; we excel in more than one area. In Swahili, we say “Njia mbili zilimshinda fisi,” emphasizing the need to niche down, but this proverb doesn’t consider situations where pursuing multiple passions can lead to the same fulfilling outcome. I am a leader aiming to show my community that it’s possible to do more than just seek employment. I am also a passionate dietitian, disheartened by the baseless nutritional advice circulating on social media. This led me to start Nutrition education sessions on my socials through Mumina Wellness Solutions. Through these sessions, I guide my audience to understand that knowing and wanting are not enough; they need to start doing.
In my spare time, I indulge in skin and hair care, providing natural products to help my African sisters maintain their natural beauty. This gives me immense joy and a sense of fulfillment.
I know my diverse interests can be confusing, but believe me, everything I love doing leads to one goal: helping my community.
There’s a downside to not niching down, such as slow growth, but it doesn’t mean growth isn’t happening. What will I do if a hair video goes viral? Will I stop focusing on Nutrition and Health? Definitely not. I hope you won’t feel forced to niche down either. If you have limited passions and desires, niching is a fantastic strategy for fast and rapid growth.
In conclusion, it’s about understanding that while niching down can accelerate growth, embracing multiple passions can lead to a more fulfilling and holistic approach to making a difference. Pursuing your various interests can not only enrich your own life but also provide diverse ways to impact your community positively.
What is that one thing you are passionate about but are scared of doing? Don’t give me the answer, start doing it today 😊💯💕
