App. 70% of Kenyans are Unemployed and this status won’t change until the leadership of the country restructures its agendas.

In the current political climate of Kenya, it’s crucial to address a common misconception: governments don’t directly create employment. Instead, they create conducive environments for businesses and investors to thrive, which in turn generates employment opportunities for citizens. Unfortunately, many Kenyans fall prey to empty campaign promises from politicians who pledge direct job creation without addressing the foundational issues that foster a robust economy.

A prime example is the current regime, which promised employment through legislation and policy implementation that would support business and investment but has failed to deliver on these promises.

For businesses to thrive, political stability is essential. This doesn’t mean citizens should sit back and watch as leaders drive the country to ruin. It means the president, as the captain of the ship, must appoint competent, accountable, and integrity-driven individuals to run critical ministries. These leaders must have the capacity, ability, and desire to perform effectively.

Performance indicators should be taken seriously, and ministries such as Health, Education, Agriculture, Transport, Energy, and Treasury should be given the attention they deserve.

Appointing leaders based on political loyalty, tribal affiliations, and nepotism instead of competence, experience, education, and technical knowledge will not give Kenyans what they want—a stable economy, a functional system, and a developing nation. Instead, it fuels existing discontent. Kenya is already burdened with corruption; why appoint leaders whose only expertise is in looting and embezzlement?

Another critical factor for business success is the affordability of raw materials and inputs like power. Currently, Kenya’s only favorable asset is cheap, available labor, given that over 70% of Kenyans are unemployed. This is a dire situation that requires urgent attention.

Maintaining favorable interregional and international relations that support trade and opportunities for Kenya is vital. The government should forge agreements with nations that prioritize Kenya’s interests, not personal gains. It’s disheartening that some leaders are too greedy to think about their motherland, choosing instead to loot for their kin’s benefit. This greed breeds resentment and social instability, and it’s only a matter of time before these actions catch up with them.

Infrastructure, comfort, and security are also key to business operations. What has been happening in our transport sector over the last two years? Very little, and yet the former CS was transferred to the Ministry of Youth to continue his ineffective leadership, stalling youth development projects just as he did in transport? I don’t know but I’m sure this kind of leadership will move us from bad to worse.

As a nation, let’s come together and pray for Kenya. Let’s pray against natural disasters like droughts, floods, and infestations that threaten our survival. As we endure the remaining term of the current regime, let’s work towards electing a better government in 2027. Ensure you have your national ID, register as a voter, and prepare to reclaim our country from the current oppressors.

As my high school principal used to say, “To the wise, a word is enough.” As we plan for the 2027 elections, let’s vote for wise leaders who prioritize the nation’s welfare over personal gain.
